Apple Class

Spring Term 2020

Our topic this half term is Fire and Ice and the children are continuing to amaze us with their learning!

We started off by learning about penguins and where they live. Year 1 created some fantastic fact files and shared them with the Reception children.

We have also been looking at maps to learn about different places in the world. Our next challenge is to learn the names of the different oceans!

We all shared the story of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers- this is definitely a new favourite in Apple Class! Year 1 retold the story and created their own books- they are just about to go up on display in our classroom because they are so amazing!

During PE, all of the children created a beautiful dance with scarves using the songs from the new Frozen 2 film- we think the adults in Apple had just as much fun as the children!

This half term, we have moved onto learning about The Great Fire of London. All of the children enjoyed taking part in a drama workshop to help them gain an insight into what life would have been like during this time. Everyone has learnt lots of interesting facts and the children are busy creating fantastic models and writing lots of super sentences to share what they have learnt- look out for the photos very soon!

We have also been very busy developing our Maths skills too. We have really improved our counting, place value skills and we have also learnt how to add and subtract numbers using equipment (Year R) and number lines (Year 1). We are now learning more about 2D and 3D shapes and also about measuring.

Please see this terms topic letter for further information.
